Today we visited Crescent Primary School to have a meeting with the year 4 teacher Matthew Lamptey to discus the questions about what we could do at the school, find out more about the students and what they're currently studying.
While there, we found out that we may be working with 2 groups of 30, although as there are only 12 of us we aren't sure how manageable that is, and might ask if we can do workshops with a smaller group of students. The school has an art week which lasts from the 27th June- 1st July and this would be a nice time to do some of our workshops as the whole school would be focused on art. The theme for the week is British values, and each year will be looking at different aspects of the theme. Reception is looking at the British monarchy, Year 1is looking at Britain around the world, Year 2 is looking at London artifacts ,Year 3 is doing printing inspired by sporting logos and the olympics and Year 4 is looking at the Beatles Sgt pepper's lonely hearts club album cover. We also learned the structure of the School's day, they begin at 9:00, have their first break from 10:50-11:10, then have a lesson from 11:10-12:45, have lunch for an hour and then a final lesson from 1:45-3:00. Finding this out was very helpful, as it meant we could see the regular structure of their day and how to fit in the work we will be doing with them. From talking to Matthew, he seemed to prefer having the workshops be more skills based and wasn't too keen on the idea of icebreakers, so we likely won't go forward with this. We also found out that if we wanted we could do work outside and that photographs should be fine, the school can ask for the parents consent. Our questions were answered and with the information we gathered we will be able to move forward properly with planning as a group.
Below is a picture of the notes I made during the meeting that show all the key topics we covered.
